We grabbed some seeds while we were at the feed store today and I tried to calm down my itch to want to rush through the rest of this cold, dreary season into spring and summer. Slow down, Emilee, don’t rush time… 😅

Im not going to lie though.. bare feet, sunshine, dirt between our toes, gardening and my tables and counters filled with produce, it’s all calling my name ☀️🌱

Nourishing Bone Broth 🦴

There are lots of ways to prepare a rich and nourishing bone broth, filled with goodness and great for gut health. With aaaaaaaall the sickness going around right now, this is yet another natural and wonderful way to be get some more nutrition into my family.

There are different methods and preferred ways to prepare your bone broth recipe- stove top, crock pot, instant pot. I like to use my instant pot since it’s quick and easy.

Remember whatever way you choose to prepare it, the longer it’s given to simmer, the longer it has to impart all the collagen goodness and vitamins into that broth.

My recipe:

I begin by adding my roasted/cooked chicken or beef bones, veggies, fresh herbs, garlic, salt and pepper to my instant pot. I Add 2-3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar to the pot to draw the collagen out of the bones. I the fill the pot half way with filtered water.

Next I turn my instant pot to pressure cook for as long as it goes. I usually cook mine for the 4 hour time frame.
When that time has finished, I can also immediately repeat the pressure cooker cycle, this time for 2 more hours. (Totaling 6.) It just depends on the time frame you have.

When the instant pot has finished, strain the broth through a fine mesh strainer and allow to cool a bit. Also at this point you can adjust seasonings to taste.

Store in the refrigerator for 5-7 days, and up to 6 months in your freezer.

Play around with it! Different fresh herbs, veggies, garlic and onion.

Add to soups as your broth, or replace your water in rice or pasta recipes. It’s delicious and nourishing!

Gluten Free Old Fashioned Jonny Cake Recipe: 3/4

Gluten Free Old Fashioned Jonny Cake Recipe:

3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp Milk
1/3 cup honey
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 large egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup Gluten free 1-1 flour
1/2 tsp fine salt
1 cup yellow cornmeal
4 teaspoons baking powder

Preheat oven to 400. Grease a 8x8 pan.
Combine wet ingredients in a bowl and then gently mix in lightly combined dry ingredients. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 min, or until center is set and toothpick comes out clean (be careful not to over bake or it will be dry). Serve with some butter and real maple syrup.

This is a favorite for our family with our soups and chili’s. It’s gluten free, refined sugar free, and delicious!

How to preserve my farm fresh eggs when I have extra: water glassing.

Water glassing the process of submerging farm-fresh, unwashed eggs in a pickling lime + water mixture. This process can preserve your eggs for up to a year, and are perfectly good to use for eating/baking.. all the things!

What I did:
I took a 2 quart mason jar (I would have used a half gallon one, but all mine are dirty) and added 1 tablespoon of the pickling lime to the jar. I mixed in 2 cups of filtered water + whisked it together. Next I added in my eggs, pointy side down and filled the jar with what I had collected. I then finished off the eggs with a little more filtered water since I didn’t quite have enough so that there was 2 inches above the stacked eggs. Finally I secured a air tight lid and put them into my dark pantry.

A couple notes-
• Try to use fresh eggs to preserve them at their peak of freshness.
• Use the cleanest eggs you have, but don’t wash them.
• Do not try this with store bought eggs, these eggs do not have the natural ‘bloom’ on a chicken egg that preserves them.

I pulled out some of my frames today to fill with our most recent family pictures and finally get them up on my wall, and the old pictures in my frames made me realize another chunk of time has flown by, and my babies are even more grown up.

Whoever decided that time needed to go by so slow, but also so heartbreakingly fast - not ok!

These babies don’t keep 🥺🤍

I’ve taken a unintentional break from my phone this month, or at least much less time spent on it, and it’s been goooood.
We needed it 🤍

There has been a lot of hard this holiday season for so many of our friends and family that we’ve been walking with. But this advent has been even more sacred and meaningful to me then usual, and I hope you can experience the peace of Jesus too.

Traveling for holidays? I love to make my own sna

Traveling for holidays?
I love to make my own snacks to take with us that save money + fill us up better then cheap, processed food+ are still a fun ‘travel treat’.

Granola bars have been my go to for years. I’ve tried and loved different recipes over the years. This is our current favorite one shared to us by a friend! I like that it’s a little healthier, while still being a yummy treat snack!

Granola bar recipe ✨
3 cups oats
2/3 flax seed meal
2 Tablespoons chia seeds
1 cup + 1/4 cup Rice Krispies cereal
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup nuts of choice (my favorite are sliced almonds or pecans)
1 cup chocolate chips
This time I mixed in a couple handfuls of mini marshmallows but that’s just an optional add in. Skip those for less sugar.

2/3 cup raw honey
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup mini marshmallows (feel free to skip this and just so honey, but I feel like they hold better with a little)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon pink salt

Begin by mixing all dry ingredients together in a large bowl. In a medium sauce pan cook honey, coconut oil, peanut butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly to keep from burning. When your mixture comes to a boil remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt, then allow to completely cool.

Once your mixture has completely cooled pour over the dry mixture and mix well. Press firmly into a 9x13 pan that has parchment paper and is lightly greased.
Allow to refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until nice and set.
Cut your bars. Enjoy!

I like to keep in the fridge to help them hold their shape. They are so yummy!

After many years of fake trees we convinced daddy to cut down our little pine tree yesterday that we had on our property so we could have a real Christmas tree this year.

It was just as wonderful as we hoped! 🎄✨🤍

After monthsss of whatever that was.. ? a hard molt/teenagers taking longer then normal to start/cold weather.. we. Have. Eggs.
I’ve never been more excited to walk out to the coop and collect my eggs, don’t ask me why but it’s one of my favorite things 🥺

We upped the protein of their feed to get them through that molt + changed around the nesting boxes + added some supplemental light and I’m getting 3+ eggs a day the last couple days. 🙌🏻

Make ahead breakfast sandwiches: 2 packages of E

Make ahead breakfast sandwiches:

2 packages of English muffins, or approx 16
8-12 ounces of meat of your choice (Sliced ham, sausage patties, bacon, turkey bacon), I used turkey bacon
16 slices of cheese, I used white cheddar

Egg bake:
18 eggs
1/3 cup of milk, I used raw (could use unsweetened oat, or regular milk)
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
3/4 teaspoon pink salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
(Could add some cooked chopped veggies in too if you would like to add some)

Instructions:
Begin by cooking your meat of choice. (I baked Turkey bacon at 350 for approx 15 min. Then cut in half with some kitchen scissors, enough to fit my English muffins. And one for me to munch on 😉).

Next crack your eggs into a bowl, whisk them together. Add the milk and seasonings. Then pour into a sprayed 12x17 inch sheet pan. Bake at 350 for 15-18 min or until eggs are set.

While eggs are baking open and lay out your English muffin sandwiches, layer your cheese and meat.

Once eggs are finished allow to cook for a few minutes and then cut into squares. Place the squares onto each sandwich.

Finish by wrapping each sandwich in a square of parchment paper, and then foil (if you prefer). You can then store in large ziplock baggies in the freezer.

Each evening before you go to bed pull out your sandwich, and allow to thaw in the freezer so it’s ready to pop into the oven (or microwave) for a few min in the morning to warm up/toast.

GF Pumpkin Bread Recipe 1 cup pumpkin purée 3/4

GF Pumpkin Bread Recipe
1 cup pumpkin purée
3/4 cup real maple syrup  2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 3 large eggs ⅓ cup olive oil 3/4 cup Bobd Red Mill gluten-free all-purpose 1-1 flour
3/4 cup oat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1 (heaping) tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

To make: Combine pumpkin, maple syrup, eggs olive oil and vanilla in a bowl. In a separate bowl combine the remaining dry ingredients. Combine both together.

Pour into a prepared bread pan, then sprinkle some cinnamon on top and about 2+ tablespoons of raw or coconut sugar for a crunchy top. (You could skip this and add chocolate chips too)
Cook for 50 min at 350, or until toothpick came out only crumbles.

Enjoy!

If you want to this to be completely refined sugar free you can use coconut sugar on top, I usually do raw sugar since that’s what I have on hand. Or skip altogether!

This bread is soooooo good! And you will hardly believe you’re eating a gluten free bread, because the oat flour mixture is perfect. 😍

Faucet clean up w/no toxic chemicals ✨

If you have hard water build up + grime this cleaning back is sooo helpful. And requires no chemical cleaners!

*Be sure to test your faucet with a little bit of vinegar before soaking to ensure it will not affect the finish with the acidity of the vinegar.*

Instructions:
After testing the faucet head simply fill a small bag with about 1/4 of a cup of vinegar. Secure with a rubber band (or hair tie in my case lol), and allow to soak for 12-24 hours depending on how grimey. I did about 12 hours.

Then remove the bag, and lightly scrub whatever is left on and your left with a crystal clean faucet head! It works amazingly!

Vinegar is a favorite natural cleaner solution for me, and this faucet trick is so easy to do!

Diy foraged fall wreath 🍁

I was inspired to make a fall wreath with things around my property, and let me tell you it was the most fun, creative project!

I had the base already, but you could absolutely just tie some sticks together to make your base, and then fill it in with all the things that inspire you around your property!

I did add a ribbon at the end for a little extra something, but other then that it was totally free 🙌🏻 you can’t beat that!

My first foraged wreath 🍁😍

Everything except for the base I found around my farm (and you could totally tie sticks together to make a base).

Literally the most fun thing. I was inspired by Ashley @arrowsandbow + so I decided to give it a go and forage around our little farm.

I am still thinking a fun velvet ribbon like Ashely’s eventually + maybe even some dried oranges to finish it off with a little more color.

BUT.. For now, I love it!

How fun that you can be inspired by your own back yard, anddd use your own vision and creativity to make things for your home!

I’m going to make a final video in the next day or two of putting it all together so i can save it. But soooo glad I tried it!

Homemade Applesauce Recipe 🍏 Fill a large pot

Homemade Applesauce Recipe 🍏

Fill a large pot with apples that have been quartered- no need to peel or core - literally so simple!
Pour 2-3 cups of water into your pan, place a lid on top, and bring your pot to a medium high boil. Allow apples to cook down until they are very soft, but be sure to keep an eye on the pot and stir every few minutes to avoid burning the bottom. When you’ve reached a mushy state pour your stewed apples into your readied food mill.

Now crank away. When you’re finished, toss your peelings and leftovers in the food mill (linked at the bottom of this caption) and enjoy!
We do not sweeten our apple sauce, but if you feel like it needs it (especially depending on the type of apple you made your applesauce with) you can add a little honey or maple syrup to sweeten it.

It freezes and thaws beautifully, or can be canned- if you don’t eat it all. I could eat bowls of warm, fresh apple sauce!

Applesauce making is such a fond memory for me! We would come home with giant boxes of apples we picked, or got at the local Mennonite store. Mom would make large batches of apple sauce and we would enjoy bowls and bowls of warm, delicious apple sauce.

Now I’m continuing on the tradition!
